Virtual Reality Hotel Pops Up at Skills London

To highlight the Apprentice and career opportunities available in the hospitality industry, a Virtual Reality Hotel pops up at Skills London. This is the UK’s biggest job and careers event and is being held today and tomorrow at Excel London. I was invited to come along for the VIP opening of the event this morning.

Hosted by Umbrella Training, the Virtual Reality Hotel Pop Up was opened by the Deputy Mayor of London. Pictured together with Henry, one of their Apprentices from The Ritz London.

Inside guests were given virtual tours of some of London’s most prestigious hotels.

Representatives from the hospitality industry included Hyatt, Red Carnation Hotels, Firmdale Hotels, The Ritz London, Sarova Hotels, Marcus Waring Restaurants, The Dorchester, Strand Palace Hotel, Hotel Cafe Royal and The Landmark.

Hoards of school leavers and employment seekers came to this event. The queues were literally the length of the corridor at Excel. The Virtual Reality Hotel proved to be a great hit. Most of these young adults may have never stayed in a 5 star hotel. The virtual reality hotel gave them a chance to experience what it is like to step inside.

Promoting apprenticeships, Umbrella Training had employers ready to interview on the day. They were also happy to chat to those interested in a career in hospitality.

How successful was the first day?

Speaking about the first day, Sam Coulstock, Business Relations Director of Umbrella says ‘A very proud day as the Deputy Mayor of London opened our VR Hotel at Skills London where we have been promoting Hospitality Apprenticeships and careers. Over 400 visitors signed up to the talent bank, smashing our target in one day.. we also won Best New Exhibitor – a great team effort at Umbrella Training and our amazing sponsors!

If you work in hospitality or are interested in finding out more about Apprenticeships then pop over to Skills London and visit the Virtual Reality Hotel. You never know where it could lead…
